The 4th command feels almost out of place. After “I want to be taken seriously as your one and only God” (commands 1-3). Here we find a command about taking one day off in seven. The word Sabbath means to cease, to stop, or by implication- to rest. A Sabbath is a stoppage of labor. Jesus indicated that it was created for our good: “The Sabbath was made for man. Not man for the Sabbath”.
